 As Jeff Pinkerton would say,
Lobster Fest is Belize’s official celebration of the opening of Lobster
season. And celebrate they do. It is set up right on the waterfront with
a stage and food booths serving lobster every way you can imagine and
some ways you would not imagine.
There is a huge fishing tournament with
weigh-ins every day. Then the bands start playing Reggae, rock and steel
pan bands play until at least 2am! There were several arts and crafts
tents set up and many activities for children. We went every afternoon
or evening and sometimes we went twice.
The event was over on Sunday afternoon
and by Monday evening all the tents had been struck, the waterfront
cleaned up and the town back to normal (sort of). We cleared out of the
country officially and got the boat ready to leave with our friends Hal
and Lynn (s/v Griffin) and head for the next part of our adventure in
Guatemala.
